I loved watching him play the harmonica. I just wonder if it was actually him. If so, he did GREAT! I also agree that this episode was better than the last one. Somehow I missed this post earlier...no, he did not play the instrument. There was a professional musician off camera playing and James was acting. The fellow who played the keyboard was very impressed with the intensity and detail that James put into doing that scene. |

For me "Mrs. California was the best episode of this season!" Robert was a total jack a** to Andy.

For me "Mrs. California was the best episode of this season!" Robert was a total jack a** to Andy. I enjoyed this episode too. More scenes, more screen time for Mr Spader and a bit more insight and depth into the character of Robert California. I hope they continue on this track but... it is a half hour show and an ensemble show, so I guess the writers have to do what they can to accommodate the large cast. Still it is always nice to see him...even if it's only fleeting. As you know... there is never enough Spader screen time for me. |

I'm trying to figure out how Robert calling Andy a "lying son of a b****" is going to influence their relationship... considering Andy was telling the truth and is predominantly a truthful person. Add to that the facts that Andy was basically propositioned by Robert's wife and everyone in the office now knows that Robert is afraid to confront his wife. How can he remain a scary force of nature to them?

To answer my own question above...evidently not at all! Andy was quite normal with Robert in the next episode, "Christmas Wishes".
By the way this episode was terrific; a great use of all members of the cast! I hope the show is able to build on the these last two episodes because they were the best of the season in my book! Unfortunately I doubt we will see James for several episodes. He has been in VA for around six weeks or so filming Spielberg's "Lincoln" instead of in LA with The Office. According to his contract he has six more episodes this season since he has already appeared in nine of them. That means he will be in half of the remaining episodes unless they tack on an extra one or two above his original quota.

I really enjoyed this episode too. James looked very handsome and relaxed and it's the first time Robert has really interacted with other characters without "Bossing" them around. James is really so good at "gentle" scenes . It was great to see a softer side to this character. I hope they do keep it up. It has certainly opened the door for more interesting storylines for him.
Guess we'll have to wait and see....
Damn....I just realized that is the last performance for 2011!
Let's hope 2012 is a great acting year for him, full of wonderful and interesting work opportunities.

I really loved this last episode the best of all the episodes with RC. It was very funny, and I loved seeing RC relaxed. He was so nice in this episode.

Aaahhh I've been so busy lately I haven't had the chance to really check in here. I've been totally loving the last couple episodes of The Office though!! They've indeed seemed to give more substance to Robert and somehow he's that much more gorgeous, too. I swooned hard every time he entered the screen. (but I guess it's hard not to)  He's really looking handsome! I'm trying to figure out how Robert calling Andy a "lying son of a b****" is going to influence their relationship... LOL. Oh man, I loved that part. I was like OH SNAP! Haha. I also wonder how things will continue with him and Andy after that whole thing. |

It is too bad the writers made such a mess of the Robert California character...very very sad. I'm glad James is jumping ship; I'm just hoping it did not totally undermine his stock as a TV leading man.
