The great thing for James is that he is making $125k and not killing himself to do it. Shazam! I should've been an actor... Hear hear!

Sorry, but The Office does nothing to me. I can fully get behind, that JS cannot act Alan Shore for ever, but he is such a brilliant actor - i hoped, that he would getter better parts and scripts than this. He can play good guy, bad guy or even sensitive guy for me, but plain repulsive on every physical and mental level: no. I'm concerned, and i can hardly bear to watch this. But maybe i have too much ill-placed empathy for him, being such a splendid actor with such poor material, or maybe i just haven't got a sense of humour...

What did you all think of the Halloween episode? I loved Robert California in this one! His character was actually endearing for once. Even though the end of his "ghost story" was oddly unexpected...LOL! I love that his character always has some piece of wisdom to leave behind...something to think about.

Hi. This was a pleasent surprise. I know, i have been very negative about the office - see the comment above Amy's' - but i am eating my words as fast as i can! The Halloween-episode was much better - genuinely funny at times. James cut a convincingly creepy and yet attractive figure, complete with his spaderesque half smiles and all - he simply seemed alive and obviously had much more material to work with. He stole the screen any moment he was on. And the best: he looked so much better in this episode: maybe a little exhausted still, but he had much better clothing and he looked much more healthy and a little slimmer, and his eyes loked alive in this episode (maybe his makeup had changed) - basically he just looked very good. It is an amazing improvement, and i am definitively going to watch the next episode!

I too was very surprised at how good James looked in this episode, but for the life of me I couldn't decide what the change was! He did look a little thinner and I think his hair and hairline looked much better...could this be it?

The man sure knows how to deliver a monologue! I really did like this episode and loved the kid who played Bert...he looked like a mini-Robert and acted like a mini-Dwight!

I believe you are right that his hair had been styled much better, toning down the reclining hairline To me even his body seemed slimmer, probably because his black jacket and especially his black shirt had a better fit and a more modern styling. Maybe someone in the production team saw the light Anyway: I am impressed!

I don't see any change in Robert's appearance. I did like the episode, Spooked, however.

Glad you are warming up to his character, Scientist! Hopefully we'll have more and more episodes like this one. I agree that he looked glowing this time around! They must have done something different with him. I remember when Steve first started they made him look as awful as possible with hair plugs and awkward dressing. As the show went on though they made him look more like himself.
Yes! Haha. Loved it. He was a little cutie.

Thank you, Amy. I am just so relieved that the ugliness went away!
But i wondered: how do you think the other actors in the show feel about JS being in it?. I know that all the official statements have been positive, but still I am biased. He is so obviously a better actor than the rest of the cast, and, being so charismatic and in an enigmatic role, he draws all the attention and you just want more. The same thing happened in The Practice: once JS was in the room, you didn't notice the other characters. So are the other cast really that happy?

I know I don't watch anyone else when he is on screen. The dynamic must have changed dramatically for the rest of the cast ... I think it must be a two- edged sword for them. Delighted to work with such a fine talent as James and worried that because he is so good, they will be given less and less to do. I have never watched "the office" until James was cast. The Robert California character is by far the most interesting to watch and I'm sure the writers would love writing monologues for him. I'm sure the actors would love playing their scenes with him. But I would think that would also have to make a few regulars a tiny bit jealous. For me.... the more James Spader the better!

Amy, this post is just for you
OMG OMG OMG!! I do not like this show. I have persevered through hopelessly awful episodes, but finally I have seen inspired writing that led to an unforgettable Spader performance. He is such an incredible storyteller. And he did Nicholson....
Aaaaaagh!! I loved it.

The latest episode, "Doomsday," was pretty good. I really enjoyed the scene where Robert and Jim were at the racquet club. James still has good looking legs and actually hit some nice shots.

I thought the "Doomsday" episode was okay.... I am just permanently frustrated because there is never enough James for me. However, I enjoyed the racquet ball scenes and yes....I thought he looked cute in his shorts.... And hit some winners as well.... Go SportySpader!

Yes - that was a fine episode. But i have similar issues to Spaderholic: basically i just want everybody but James to go away. Do you think that this will kill The Office and take James to a new series, just like the TP to BL-transition?
