The Practice and Alan Shore introduced me to James Spader, but the first movie of his I watched after this was "sex, lies, and videotape". Sometimes I have discovered an actor I liked on TV only to find it was the character I loved and not really the actor. After watching his performance in "slv" I knew I had found an actor to be reckoned with. I have gone on to see all of his work and there are few performances that I did not love. He truly is a very talented actor; one whom I just love to watch executing his craft.

Secretary was the first movie I saw him in. Being a big fan of Seinfeld though, I was initially aware of him from his spot on one of their episodes...(which admittedly I found his character very annoying. Lol). That was yeeears ago though. When my Mom started watching Boston Legal a couple months back, is when I truly noticed James and his energy. Just in passing by the TV while it was on I was instantly drawn to him for reasons I didn't know. Soon after that I only accidentally stumbled upon him in Secretary when browsing my Mom's movies. Officially fell in love and never looked back!

The first movie I ever saw him in was Pretty in Pink, but I fell for his character Daniel Jackson in Stargate. It's been love ever since.

Yes, my avatar is from The Pentagon Papers. Thanks, I thought he was looking rather Ellsbergish in that photo.

Morning Amy,
How is the movie watching progressing? Do you have a new film lined up for this weekend? All the chatter at JSMP about Curtain Call has me ready to pull it off the shelf.

Sorry for the late reply orchidlover - I was without internet all weekend! Drove me crazy, too! I've been having so much fun going through all of his movies. I'm trying to pace myself, to make it all last longer. Over the weekend I watched Speaking of Sex (love LOVED James in this!) and Pentagon Papers. Next up should be Alien Hunter.

Wait a minute, Amy...your not getting off that easily (LOL)! What did you think of The Pentagon Papers and why did you love Speaking of Sex?

Haha. I thought The Pentagon Papers was great! I don't really have any awesome insights or observations other than the obvious. Just an altogether tense, enlightening, well-told story with superb acting (can't expect any less from James!). A good history lesson for myself as well! Definitely a movie worth buying. Speaking of Sex I adored for it's quirky humor, mostly manifested through James' character. We all of course know how well James delivers expressions in his acting, and in this particular film I thought he did an AMAZING and hilarious job. And his expressions were SO PERFECTLY complimented by his character's actions - like in how he moved and bent his body when feeling antsy, or how he was holding and thrusting the lawn rabbit at Dan in a fight...LOL. I just can't say enough about how well he executed that role. I was also delighted by Jay Mohr's (Dan) performance. If you payed attention to him, he too delivered some brilliant expressions at just the right moment. I think so many little things like that, combined with the chemistry between characters - just made the movie so much fun for me to watch. And of course...the sex. So far, it's coming in 3rd on my "top Spader movies" list.

I regard Speaking of Sex as one of my "guilty pleasures"! James is just so off the wall dorky in this film that it is fun. I agree that his expressions were perfect.

James is just so off the wall dorky in this film that it is fun. Precisely! I've watched the movie 3 (or 4... ) times already. I just can't get enough of Dr. Klink!

I just saw Speaking of Sex the other day. A little (or a lot) over the top, but you could certainly recognise some of Mr. Grey in dr. Klink- a man, whose sexual desires and attractiveness is beyound him. The scene in the conference room, where everybody gets turned on, and dr. Klink has no clue to what is going on, is simply hilarious. Bill Murray and Cathering O´Hara has some great scenes, and dr. Klinks sex scenes are delightfully clumsy. Pure tongue-in-cheek from such a smooth operator as Spader.
